Vizsla with White Markings – All You Need to Know

The Hungarian Vizsla, simply known as Vizsla, is a medium-sized dog originally bred in Hungary for hunting small animals (rabbits, birds, rodents, etc.). This canine can often be confused with the Weimaraner breed dog due to its similar appearance. 

The Vizsla has a strong, lean body covered by short, smooth fur with a solid reddish-gold color. On the other hand, its nose, eyes, and nails generally blend with the color of its hair, allowing it to have perfect camouflage. 

It turns out to be a very obedient, active, and loyal animal. In addition, it has a unique sense of smell and more qualities than you can imagine. 

However, there are times when puppies of this breed are born with a white spot on their body. Although it is not the most normal and seen in a Vizsla dog, it is acceptable that it has a whitish area on its chest, which is generally the place where it usually appears. 

According to the standard, white spots tend to appear on the chest or 5 cm from the animal’s throat. Small white spots can also be seen on the canine’s fingers or around the muzzle and on other parts of its face. 

There are no black or gray spots on the fur of this animal. However, spots on the chest and neck are only considered faults if they have a diameter greater than 5 cm or more. 

That means that people prefer that their Vizslas do not have these spots. We suppose that it is due to the precise reason to see this breed without any type of spots on its body that can overshadow its precious golden-reddish color. 

Why Don’t People Like Vizsla Dogs with White Spots? 

Typically, Vizslas are canines adored and desired by many people because they are physically beautiful. These dogs have a very attractive golden coat, which, in turn, captures the attention of humans and makes them interested in this animal. 

In addition, its coat is one of the most recognized and shiny in the world, competing with the Weimaraner dog’s coat, which is similar in texture but different in color (it is usually silver-gray). 

Many people can boast of having as a pet a mighty Vizsla with a gorgeous reddish-gold coat. 

Now, while this is one reason why individuals prefer their pet to have a spot-free coat, there are times when puppies are born with a spot on their chest or near their throat. 

That is not a pleasant thing for people, because they prefer their Vizslas to be “original” and not have any kind of strange anomaly on their bodies that completely ruins their image as a dog.

There are owners of Vizsla dogs who have pets of this type with white spots on their bodies who consider that this factor makes them look more special than they already are. 

While it is true that the world abounds in numbers of Vizslas canines, not all of them have a white spot on their bodies, which makes these pets unique and special for their humans. 

Is the White Spot in the Vizsla Dog a Disease? 

No, it is only a spot that appears on some Vizsla dogs when they are born. That is considered genetic. 

Instead, the white spots around the muzzle and elsewhere are due to the animal’s aging. That is, when a Vizsla begins to age, light whitish spots will start to appear in various areas of its face.

The UK KC says that white spots on a Vizsla dog are unacceptable and therefore do not allow these canines to participate in competitions. 

Are There People Who Accept a Vizsla Dog with White Markings? 

Of course, yes. There are people who adore Vizslas with white spots and do not see them differently from canines that do not have them. 

A dog is a special pet for the person who acquires it, regardless of its appearance. 

Many owners of Vizslas with white spots have even used their dogs for hunting small animals. Although their fur is not completely golden-reddish, that does not mean that they cannot perform the same tasks and activities. 

As long as the canine has a great sense of smell, incredible tracking ability, and unstoppable agility, the white spots on its body won’t matter. 

Besides, several individuals consider that a white spot on the chest or the toes makes their pets look adorable and original. 

The main thing is that people have an obligation to preserve the natural hunting instinct of this pet. Therefore, we should not worry too much about the toes or the animal’s white chest as long as it has a good sense of smell and can carry out its activities. 

On the other hand, there are places where these animals are accepted without problems, especially if the spot on their chest or fingers is not very large. The less visible the white color is, the more chances the Vizsla will have to be qualified in the event that its owner wishes to enter it in competitions. 

Remember that the white spots on the face are due to the dog’s aging and not because it was born with them.
