Things You Need to Know to Provide Obedience Training to Your Weimaraner 

Choose a Suitable Space to Train your Weimaraner

When training any dog, it is important to provide a suitable space for it not only inside the house but also outside. 

You have to make sure that the space inside the house has adequate temperatures for your Weimaraner, that is, not too hot and not too cold. If you don’t have a garden or backyard to set up an outdoor space, then you will have to train it at a friend’s house. However, the space you have chosen must be limited so that your canine does not escape since we remember that this breed of dog loves to run and play due to their high level of energy. 

Tools and Items Needed  

Like any other training, we will need certain objects that will allow us to properly train our Weimaraner in terms of obedience. 

The most important equipment you will need to buy to train your Weimaraner is a long leash and a collar. Your dog will have to get used to wearing these items.  

It is also essential that we have enough treats to reward the canine each time it does an action correctly. Your Weimaraner’s favorite toy is also a good option to make training more fun and entertaining.  

Methods You Can Use in Weimaraner Obedience Training 

We can teach many skills to dogs, regardless of their breed, in different ways. Each of them will have its variations, but in the end, the result will be as desired. Next, we will show you some interesting and effective methods to train your Weimaraner. It should be noted that these forms of training are based on voice commands. 

Weimaraner “Sit” Method 

This method consists of holding a treat in your hand to get your pet’s attention. Hold the treat above your Weimaraner’s head at an acceptable height. 

Slowly move your hand over its head. That will make your canine sit up automatically. When it does it, say “yes” and immediately reward it with a treat and praise it. 

You can also teach it to obey you by following a hand signal. Do exactly the same as the previous step but this time make a signal with the other hand (it can be a closed fist) 

Weimaraner “Stay” Method 

The first thing you should do is ask your dog to sit through the “sit” command. Immediately order it to stay in place via the “stay” command and then take a step back. 

If you notice that your Weimaraner remains in the same place, say “yes” and reward it with a treat. In case it has moved, say “no” in a strong tone of voice and re-order it to sit. 

In this type of training, it is important to use a release word such as “OK”. When we say it, your dog will be able to move freely again. 

Increase the difficulty by extending the distance between you and your Weimaraner and also the time it must remain seated. Practice this process several times until your canine has mastered it. 

Weimaraner “Come” Method 

You have to hold your Weimaraner with the long leash and attract its attention either with a toy or with some noise made by you. As soon as it looks at you, say its name out loud and encourage it to come and get the toy. 

When your dog approaches you, you have to reward it with a treat and of course, give it its toy. Practice this several times. 

Once your Weimaraner has gotten used to approaching you, it is time to use the “come” command. Now you can continue practicing the same with your dog using this command. Remember always to reward it when it has followed your order. 

Increase the difficulty by adding distractions to the training. You can go to a park or a place with people. You can also add objects in your garden or backyard to distract the canine. That will help your dog improve considerably and follow your commands most of the time.
