There are a large number of dog breeds, each with different physical and personality characteristics. However, regardless of what type of dogs they are, it is essential that we, as their owners, provide them with adequate care to guarantee them the best health and, therefore, a longer life.

Within the care that we must give our dogs, we can consider guidelines regarding their grooming or physical activity, but one of the most important factors is the diet we provide them.

Although they have an organism similar to that of human beings, we have to remember that these types of animals tend to be more susceptible. For that reason, not all foods are suitable for them. In fact, many of them can poison our pets.

Feeding a dog represents one of the concerns that owners of these beautiful animals often have. The concern arises from the fact that they want to offer their canines a natural and healthy diet but do not know how to do it.

There are many human foods that are undoubtedly harmful to the health of these animals. On this occasion, we will talk about eggs and how appropriate they are for feeding dogs

Are Eggs Good for Dogs?

Like humans, the body of dogs needs protein and nutrients for its proper development. Indeed, eggs are good food for these animals. It is not only consumed due to its great taste but also due to the macronutrients and micronutrients it has.

For this reason, eggs are considered one of the most nutritious foods that exist, which is why they should be added to our dog’s diet.

Eggs are not only crucial for the proteins and nutrients they offer. These foods contain the amino acids necessary for our dogs. Similarly, although fat is not suitable for any human being, eggs provide healthy fats that are usually beneficial for their body.

Some important minerals that this food offers are phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and zinc, as well as fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).

How Should Eggs Be Prepared for Our Dogs?

We must bear in mind that there are certain adequate ways to prepare this food for our dogs.

The most recommended is to feed our canines with cooked eggs. That is mainly because these animals tend to easily ingest and assimilate this food and, therefore, all its nutrients. In addition, giving them cooked eggs will help reduce the risk of salmonellosis.

This situation does not occur with raw eggs, which are not recommended for these animals.

Although dogs are better able to digest raw eggs than humans, on many occasions, they will be harmful to their health since it could cause salmonella or biotin deficiency.

We are not saying that dogs cannot eat raw eggs since they are widely used in the BARF diet, which consists of preparing various fresh foods that can offer many vitamins and minerals. Uncooked egg white contains avidin, which is a protein that can act as an antinutrient by interfering with the absorption of biotin or vitamin H.

The opposite is true for cooked eggs. In this case, avidin is denatured, allowing our canine to receive the necessary proteins and healthy fats for its organism.

It is also advisable to prepare the eggs in another way, either by frying, boiling, or even cooking them in the style of a French omelet.

How Many Eggs Should We Feed Our Dogs With?

Dogs, like people, must have a diet based on a wide variety of foods that provide the necessary proteins and nutrients for the body. For this reason, although it is good to feed our dogs with eggs, we should not overfeed them.

We know that dogs are usually carnivores, so it would be good to establish a varied diet based on products of animal origin such as meat, fish, eggs, etc. In addition, vegetables and fruits are excellent food supplements for these animals.

It is not recommended to feed our dogs with eggs every day of the week. The portions will really depend on the age, size, and development of our pet, but it is recommended to provide this food once or twice a week. However, it would not be a bad idea to consult the vet before preparing your dog’s diet to ensure that it is of the best quality.

Why are Eggs Beneficial for Our Dogs?

These foods are essential for dogs in general, regardless of whether it is a male or female (whether pregnant or not). We have previously mentioned situations that would involve feeding a canine with raw or cooked eggs.

Following the guidelines that the vet can give you and providing the necessary portions of this food to our pet, the benefits that they can have can be varied.

The reduction of hair loss in these animals is one of the benefits provided by eggs. That is because the egg yolk contains a large amount of biotin that is usually essential for the organisms of these animals.

In addition, eggs are low in calories and provide a large amount of protein and nutrients. We can also highlight the presence of fatty acids, vitamin B12, and omega 3 in these foods.

Eggs are essential both for athletic dogs that need a lot of physical activity and for those that are weak since it helps them in their development and to have high energy. Another benefit that this food offers is the improvement of vision, being this one a crucial aspect considering that as these animals age, they lose the sense of sight.
